About Ed Frater - Growth Partner

I’m a Growth Partner at Purplex Marketing, working with leadership teams across the home improvement, construction, fenestration, and building products sectors to design and deliver strategic marketing programmes that drive sustainable revenue growth.

I come from the industry I advise. I’ve spent my career working alongside owners, executives, and commercial teams in complex, channel-led businesses, helping turn strategy into execution that delivers results in the real world. My focus has always been commercial. I align marketing activity with revenue targets, market expansion plans, leadership priorities, and the people responsible for delivery.

My work is shaped by being part of a marketing firm with more than 20 years’ experience scaling brands in this space, but my value comes from hands-on experience. I’ve built and led strategies that strengthen demand, support growth objectives, and stand up to the practical realities of the sector, not theory or surface-level metrics.

I take a business-first approach to marketing. That means starting with what the organisation needs to achieve and building strategies that support revenue, pipeline growth, and long-term value. Marketing only works when it serves the wider business and the people accountable for results.

Over the years, I’ve supported businesses with growth and go-to-market strategy, brand positioning, demand generation, dealer and distributor marketing, and the modernisation of marketing systems. More recently, my work has included practical AI adoption, focused on improving efficiency, insight, and scale without adding complexity.

Earlier in my career, I spent three years with Wolseley UK, one of the UK’s leading specialist distributors of plumbing, heating, cooling, and infrastructure products. Before that, I worked for four years at the UK’s former largest national window company, holding several commercial roles across the business. For the past eight years, I’ve worked strategically with companies and business owners across the fenestration, construction, and home improvement supply chain.

I typically work with home improvement and remodelling companies, construction brands, window and door manufacturers, and building product businesses, often founder-led or at a growth stage. My approach is collaborative and execution-led, designed to scale with the organisation and adapt as goals change.

Outside of work, I keep active and social. I train regularly in the gym, box for fitness, and surf when time and conditions allow. I’m a lifelong Newcastle United supporter, enjoy live gigs and events, and spend time with friends. I drink occasionally, but nothing excessive.

If you’re looking for a Growth Partner who understands your industry, your people, and what it takes to grow, that’s where I add value.
